Delayed gratification might be sexually fun for some, but having to wait longer than usual for a new season of Netflix’s Sex Education has been agony. Still, release is on the way, and we now know that the show will be back in September for more frank talk of love, lust, family and friendship. According to the official synopsis: “It’s a new year, Otis (Asa Butterfield) is having casual sex, Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) and Adam (Connor Swindells) are official, and Jean (Gillian Anderson) has a baby on the way. Meanwhile, new headteacher Hope (played by Jemima Kirke) tries to return Moordale to a pillar of excellence, Aimee (Aimee Lou Wood) discovers feminism, Jackson (Kedar Williams-Stirling) gets a crush and a lost voicemail still looms. Prepare for commitment animals, alien phenomena, vulva cupcakes and much more of Madam Groff (Samantha Spiro).”

Other new cast include Jason Isaacs (Hello!) playing Peter Groff, Mr Groff’s (Alistair Petrie) more successful and not very modest older brother; recording artist and songwriter, Dua Saleh who joins in their acting debut, playing Cal, a nonbinary student at Moordale; and Indra Ové, who plays Elsie’s foster mum Anna.

If you can, er, hold on, Sex Education returns to Netflix on 17 September.
