Shawn Levy‘s 2011 sci-fi film Real Steel featured boxing robots and Hugh Jackman, and though it made money at the box office, it didn’t spawn sequels. A TV series adapted from the movie is now in the early stages of development at Disney+.

The world of Jackman’s ex-boxer Charlie Kenton and his reconnecting with the son he barely knows (Dakota Goyo‘s Max), plus the battling ‘bots, would seem to be prime fodder for the Mouse House’s streaming service. No writer is on board yet, so we don’t know what part of that world, or what other elements it might take from the film’s original inspiration, Richard Matheson short story Steel.

This one has taken a while because of all the various producers and rights involved. Levy will be one of the executive producers, alongside Robert Zemeckis, Susan Montford and Don Murphy.
