Despite all the attention lavished on Jupiter’s Legacy, the first live-action series to come flying out of Netflix’s big deal with comicbook creator Mark Millar, it appears that the streaming services priorities have very much now shifted, focusing instead on a series based on Supercrooks.
The idea now is to segue to more of an anthology format instead of continuing directly with the Jupiter’s Legacy, and contracts with Season 1 cast members such as Josh Duhamel and Leslie Bibb are being released. Though there were plot strands left dangling at the end of the first batch of episodes,
“I’m really proud of what the team achieved with Jupiter’s Legacy and the amazing work everyone did on that origin season,” Millar said on Twitter. “I’ve been asked a lot about what we’re planning next with this world and the answer is to see what the super-villains are getting up to. I’ve always loved crime stories from Scorsese to Tarantino and super-villains are always the most fun part of any superhero story. To do something exclusively focused on the villains they fight just feels incredibly fresh as we explore what it’s like to be a bad guy in a world crawling with good guys who want to put you in jail.”
Supercrooks is seemingly Netflix’s new favourite among the Millarworld titles, with an anime adaptation already on the way from Studio Bones. The live-action adaptation will be separate, and there’s always a chance that characters we first met in Legacy could cross over, but for now it appears that the Utopian and co. are sitting on the bench.
