James Gunn‘s The Suicide Squad small screen spin-off Peacemaker, focused on John Cena‘s blowhard vigilante, is going great guns in the US where it lands weekly on HBO Max to praise and big audiences. UK viewers are still waiting impatiently to find out when and where it’ll show here, but according to the writer/director, he’s developing another show based on the Squad.
“We’re working on something else now, another TV show that’s connected to that universe,” Gunn told Deadline‘s Hero Nation podcast. “I can’t quite say.”
Given the sprawling, name-laden cast of last year’s superhero film, it’s anyone’s guess who could be the focus of the show, which Gunn says will be less comedic than Peacemaker. It seems unlikely that stars on the level of Margot Robbie or Idris Elba would be available (though it’s not like John Cena is low profile or not busy himself), and we would happily watch a series built around Daniela Melchior‘s Ratcatcher 2 (and rodent pal Sebastian). Or, indeed, any of the surviving villains.
In addition, Gunn appears upbeat about a second season of Peacemaker. “There’s a really good chance of that,” he says. “The show is doing extraordinarily well, and we’re excited, we all like doing it, we just need to cross some Ts and dot some Is, which is basically me.”
Gun himself is also pretty busy, given that he’s shooting both Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 and a holiday special in Atlanta. As for Peacemaker, we’ll let you know when we learn its ultimate UK destination and date.
