This weekend sees the return of the virtual version of Comic-Con for a second year, the pandemic still making it unwise to hold the giant physical incarnation. And with big companies like Disney and WB skipping the @Home event, others are filling the void, including Amazon, which premiered the first poster for its TV series adaptation of Robert Jordan’s The Wheel Of Time.

Set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists and only certain women are allowed to access it, the story follows Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers. There, she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity…

Maria Doyle Kennedy, Kate Fleetwood, Joshua Stradowski, Marcus Rutherford, Zoe Robins and Barney Harris are also among the sprawling cast for the show, which has generated enough confidence in the Amazon brass (and its accountants) to warrant a second season order before the first has premiered. Oh, and we do now know when that will be – the month, at least – as the poster confirms a November launch.

Incidentally, Jordan’s work is popular right now, as there is also a movie (a potential franchise) in the works, adapting stories set years before the Wheel narrative takes place…
