When director David Lowery‘s latest, the Dev Patel-starring medieval fantasy tale The Green Knight was unceremoniously yanked from its August theatrical release in the UK because of Covid concerns, many worried that it might not be back, or would head straight to streaming. It’s a relief to report then, that it’ll be in cinemas on 24 September, and will also land on Amazon’s Prime Video service the same day.

The film finds Patel as Sir Gawain, nephew to King Arthur, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight (Ralph Ineson), a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger.

Entertainment Film Distributors had planned a 6 August release, but yanked it on short notice. Now the company is bringing it to screens on that September date, having made a deal with Amazon to provide it as a day-and-date release. So if you want to see it at the cinema (and it’s playing near you), you’ll be able to, but if you feel safer checking it out at home, you have that option too.
