Christopher Nolan certainly isn’t shy of bringing out the big names for his latest film, Oppenheimer. With Emily Blunt a recent hire, he now has Robert Downey Jr. and Matt Damon in talks to sign on.

Cillian Murphy, a Nolan veteran, is aboard to star as noted atomic research scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer. The film finds Nolan adapting the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph And Tragedy Of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin. It’ll chart how Oppenheimer played a key role in the creation of atomic weapons, yet later came to have complicated feelings about their deadly power. He lobbied for international control of nuclear power and opposed the creation of the even more destructive hydrogen bomb.

Damon, of course, would also be a repeat Nolan collaborator, given his work on Interstellar, while this would be the first appearance for Downey Jr. in one of the director’s productions. We don’t yet know who they’re playing, but we do know the movie is scheduled to be out in July 2023.
