Emerald Fennell’s CV was already impressive – actress in The Crown, writer/showrunner on Season 2 of Killing Eve – but she can now add Oscar-winner to her considerable list of accomplishments, thanks to a Best Original Screenplay win for her feature debut, Promising Young Woman.

The film sees Carey Mulligan as Cassie, a 30-year-old woman who dropped out of med school and put her career plans on hold after her best friend died in a mysterious tragedy. She now spends her nights on the hunt for sexual predators, pretending to be blind drunk and waiting for the wolves to close in.

Mulligan is joined in the film by a stellar supporting cast, including Jennifer Coolidge and Clancy Brown as Cassie’s parents, as well as Allison Brie, Bo Burnham, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Connie Britton and Chris Lowell.

With Fennell’s whip-smart script, stunning costume design from Nancy Steiner (The Virgin Suicides, Twin Peaks: The Return), and a sinister, growling score from Anthony B. Willis that perfectly compliments the film’s fizzy, pop soundtrack, the film not only took home an Oscar win and four nominations, but two of the most prestigious awards a this year’s BAFTA Film awards, including Outstanding British Film and Best Original Screenplay. Not to mention a full five star review from Empire.

You can watch Promising Young Woman now on Sky Cinema, the Home of Sky Original films now.
