It’s been a long wait for Paul Thomas Anderson‘s latest film, though the director has kept busy directing music videos for Haim. Now, he’s officially ready to return to the big screen, with the trailer for his new offering, Licorice Pizza, smartly playing only in indie cinemas before certain movies. Until now… Take a look.

With Anderson writing, directing and producing, the new film is set in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley in 1973. It stars Cooper Hoffman (son of the late Anderson veteran Philip Seymour Hoffman) in his film debut as Gary Valentine, a young actor falling for Alana Kane (Haim’s Alana Haim) and discovering that young love is a tangled time for all. Around them orbits a variety of friends, filmmakers (including Bradley Cooper‘s arrogant director) and politicians (fellow director Bennie Safdie is a man running for office). Sean Penn, Ben Stiller, Maya Rudolph and John C. Reilly are all in the cast for this one, and in case you were wondering about the title, it’s not referring to a frankly terrible-sounding food but instead to a much-loved chain of Southern California record stores that tempted patrons with free licorice, comfy couches and racks of music mags alongside the latest vinyl releases.

In the States, the film will kick off with a limited release on 26 November, before expanding on 25 December. There’s no official word on a UK debut yet, but with luck we won’t have to keep on waiting much longer.
