Mike Flanagan has carved out a successful niche for himself, creating or adapting horror stories for the likes of Warners and Netflix. For a future film project, Universal has him drawing from sci-fi horror novel The Season Of Passage.
While bringing books of terror to screens is nothing new for Flanagan, this will represent adding another genre to the mix, with the director adapting Christopher Pike’s 1993 novel alongside brother James Flanagan.
The specific take is being kept quiet, but the tome’s basic story follows Dr. Lauren Wagner who became a global celebrity for her involvement in a crewed expedition to Mars. The whole world admired and respected her, but Lauren started to fear eat away at her, and heard voices that demanded she love them. And then there’s the crew that preceded her mission to the Red Planet – those who died. Or did they?
And this is not the first Pike book that Flanagan is adapting – he’s currently at work on The Midnight Club for Netflix. He’s just added the likes of Iman Benson, Larsen Thompson, William B. Davis, Crystal Balint and Patricia Drake to the cast.
