All right, so they might not have gone with our preferred title (2Downton 2 Abbey), but the team behind Downton Abbey: A New Era have at least seen fit to grace the interwebs with the first images of the film sequel. Prepare to head back to the family home via your eyeballs.
Not much is known about the plot for the sequel, beyond the fact that Lord Robert Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) and the rest are preparing to welcome the King for a visit. Guaranteed stress free, we’re sure. Though given the look on Bonneville’s face in the main image above, it appears Paddington might be stopping by. Now that is a crossover we’d watch.
Series creator Julian Fellowes once again wrote the script, while Simon Curtis directs. Alongside Bonneville, we can expect the return of stalwarts such as Michelle Dockery, Maggie Smith, Joanne Froggatt, Elizabeth McGovern and Laura Carmichael, with Dominic West, Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock and Nathalie Baye joining for some period drama fun.
As for the teaser? That is only playing in cinemas so far, attached to the release of Belfast this weekend. Get a tiny taste below.
Downton Abbey: A New Era will be in cinemas on 18 March next year.
