After five films, it appears the Purge franchise might be ready to silence its sirens and hang up its crazy masks, as we’ve reached what is currently planned as the final entry. But as the title suggests, The Forever Purge finds some people unwilling to ditch the annual lawlessness event. Check out the trailer…

With Everardo Gout taking over the director’s chair (the second time that Purge creator James DeMonaco has stepped back, though he’s still the writer here), The Forever Purge is set after the conclusion of the year’s latest Purge, with all crime returning to being illegal. But when an an underground movement no longer satisfied with one annual night of anarchy and murder decides to overtake America through an unending campaign of mayhem and massacre, no one is safe. Two families in Texas must fight back against a gang of killers as the rest of the country begins to spiral into chaos around them.

Ana de la Reguera, Tenoch Huerta, Josh Lucas, Cassidy Freeman, Leven Rambin, Alejandro Edda and Will Patton are among the stars here, and it remains to be seen whether the stories – which have also spawned a TV spin-off – continue in some form or other. The Forever Purge will bring bloody mayhem to UK screens on 16 July.
